Haitian / Dominican Republic border chaos
The border crossing between Haiti and the Dominican Republic as the ongoing struggle to get supplies into Haiti continues. So many people are trying to cross that agents have stopped checking papers at the border, and the zone is full of trucks and bags of food and desperate people trying to catch a ride into the DR. The border crossing between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a microcosm of larger issues between the two countries, as well as the ongoing struggle to get supplies into Haiti where they're needed. So many people are trying to cross that agents have stopped checking papers at the border, and the crossing zone is full of trucks and bags of food and desperate people trying to catch a ride into the DR. The road from Haiti into the DR for the last few miles is almost all dirt road with large potholes and puddles of water impeding access. On the other side of the border, DR army and police have set up dozens of checkpoints along the country's roads at which all vehicles must stop and potentially be searched.
