Courageous pictures, today there was a protest in Berlin but nothing like this. Unfortunately, the police did also not respect our press freedom but I escaped uninjured. Brave photography!

The Taliban stormed this UN guesthouse (Bekhtar Guest House) killing 12 people, 8 of them UN workers on the 28 October 2009. The UN announced that they are to pull out 600 workers following the attack. Kabul, Afghanistan. 8/11/2009. Burnt out literature can be seen in the remains of the building as well as a copy of Barack Obama's autobiography. The militants were wearing Afghan police attire which police state can be bought openly in some bazaars as well as other police equipment such as sirens and plastic ‘police’ sign covers intended for police cars. The attack on the UN guest house in Shar-e-now (New City), Kabul, was a bold attack which has now resolved in the UN announcing that they will pull out 600 staff from Afghanistan. This was a U-turn from the chief of the United Nations mission in Afghanistan, Kai Eide pledging that it 'will not deter the U.N. from continuing all its work' in the country,” (28 October, 2009.) The gunmen attacked with Kalashnikov's and grenades. Burnt out literature can be seen in the remains of the building as well as a copy of Barack Obama's autobiography. Also pictured is the card of 40 year old Jossie Garbo Esto, a filipino national, who worked in the finance project helping with the Afghan elections. President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has called for the return of his corpse. “We are in touch with the Afghan government which we have very good relations with. (We thus expect) they (Afghan officials) will do everything to ensure the safety of Filipinos in the area,” Remonde said.

Iran’s parliament, the Majlis approved 18 of the 21 proposed candidates in the Cabinet re-shuffle. Outstanding candidates included the first female parliamentary since the 1979 revolution Marzieh-Vahid Dastjerdi. The other was Brigadier Ahmad Vahidi who won the highest number of votes. Marzieh-Vahid Dastjerdi studied medicine at the University of Tehran and is a qualified gynaecologist. In May 1999 she went to Turkey to lead protests against the ban on headscarves stating that they were an “affront to Muslims and a crime against human rights”. Brigadier Ahmad Vahidi was Iran's deputy defence minister, and founder of the IRGC's 'Lebanon Corps' in the 1980s.
