The Field of Remembrance in the grounds of Westminster Abbey opened again this week. The annual event is one of the main acts of remembrance in London that takes place around Remembrance Sunday. The annual event is one of the main acts of remembrance in London that takes place around Remembrance Sunday. The Field, organised by the Royal British Legion, was opened officially on Thursday 5th November by Prince Philip. This year there are an estimated 60,000 crosses planted in the field and for the first time ever there are specific designated areas for the service men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. These crosses of the most recent British soldiers to die in conflict also include a photograph, another first for the Royal British Legion and a stark reminder that the work of the Legion is not just about the soldiers who died in the two world wars, but also about the soldiers who are still dying today.

50 Greenpeace activists protest on the roof of Westminster Hall in the House of Commons to protest against climate change. Westminster, London, UK. 11/10/2009 Yesterday around 50 Greenpeace activists managed to breach Parliamentary security and climb on to the roof of Westminster Hall in the House of Commons to protest against climate change. Around twenty of the protesters stayed on the roof overnight and say they plan to continue their protest throughout today. The protest was planned to coincide with the return of MPs after the summer recess. As MPs returned for the first day of the new Parliamentary session they were greeted by the protesters who were asking them to sign up to a climate change manifesto.

Hundreds of Iranians living in the UK gathered outside the Iranian Embassy to protest against the recent Presidential election. The demonstrators believe that President Ahmadinejad stole the election through fraudulent means. For the last few days 100s of 1000s of Iranians have taken to the streets of Tehran to call for the ballots to be recounted and for the rightful winner to be installed as President. As these protests have been happening they have been echoed in London with daily protests outside the Embassy.
