Not Another Drop: 6th Community Peace March 2009

Annual community peace march held by the group 'Not Another Drop'. Their aim is to reduce levels of gun and knife crime in the local community. Brent, London, England. 26/09/2009.

On the 26th of September the starting point of the 6th annual community peace march from Brent Roundwood park, Willesden Green, London finishing at the famous Wembley stadium. The peace march was organized by "Not another drop" or NAD which was formed in February 2001 in responses to a number of shooting in Harlesden. NAD was born out of a unique collaboration between Brent Council, the Metropolitan Police Service and the local community. Over the years this partnership has grown to include more partners, however it has always been recognised that the cornerstone of NAD is the community and without the dedication and support of the people of Brent the past 7 years would not have been as successful.

The start of the march began at 12 noon with the release of 74 balloons by various VIP's including the mayor of Brent. The march walked through Harlesden with the support from the local police and the fire brigade arriving at the jubilee clock for a memorial stop. A local MP, Mayor and the the borough commander fire services lit candles held by school children. As the candles are being placed by the children the names of each victims was being read over a PA system on an open air support bus. After the memorial stop the march carried on through Harlesden and Stonebridge park and finished at Wembley Statium where a stage was organized for some speeches from the Mayor of Brent, the family members of some victims, the borough commander of the Met police, the borough commander fire services and various local MP's. The event ended with performances from various artist.
