The stone carving village of Dong Hai, located next to the Marble Mountains is famous for traditional stone engraving and stone-cutting crafts. A lot of the businesses are family owned and even today more than 600 families are involved in the business of stone engraving and jewelry making.
Vietnam exports the marble and stone sculpture products. However, direct rock extraction from the mountains was banned recently which has led to transportation of materials from the quarries in Quang Nam province.
Marble Mountains is a group of five marble and limestone hills located in Ngu Hanh Son district south of Da Nang city in Vietnam. The five mountains are named after the five elements of the universe based on classic Chinese thinking; Kim (metal), Thuy (water), Moc (wood), Hoa (fire) and Tho (earth). The mountains have numerous cave entrances, tunnels and buddhist sanctuaries, which have also made them a popular tourist destination.
