19th September The Cycle Tour of Britain Final Stage, stage 8 was played out on the streets of central London. The Embankment from Westminster Bridge to the Tower of London was closed to traffic to allow the final stage of the 2009 Tour of Britain to take place. London saw 96 cyclists at the peak of their sport race along the Embankment to the cheers of the onlookers. The 92km Ten lap stage began at Whitehall and took the riders past many a London landmark as they fought it out for victory. The Tour of Britain ran over eight days beginning in North Lincolnshire on the 12th September and ending in London on the 19th. The race was supported by The Prostate Cancer Charity and transport for London (TfL)
