London Mayor Raises The Flag For Saint George

  • Context

Story:

London Mayor Boris Johnson celebrated St George’s Day in style today (23 April), taking a trip on an iconic Routemaster bus alongside celebrity chef Gary Rhodes. They joined a colourful festival of quintessentially English food and drink at Leadenhall Market, where the Mayor gave a speech at the historic market, as well as meeting with traders, city workers, morris dancers, pearly kings and queens and members of the public.

The Mayor said: “At last, the country is getting excited about St George’s Day, without embarrassment or fear of reproach, for England has so much to be proud of. What better to celebrate our patron saint than in the English capital.”

There has been enormous interest in this year’s St George’s Day celebrations, not just in London, but around the country with celebrations in many towns and cities.

As the Mayor concluded: “Let’s raise a flag, if not a glass for our patron saint.”

Cheers Boris and good health Saint George!
