The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama revisited Tawang for the 5th time in his last 50 years of exile, inspite of Chinese opposition and pressure to India governemnt. Tawang is a very sensitive issue with regard to Indo- China boundary disputes, as China claims the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India to be its own. The hill town of Tawang houses a major Tibetan Buddhist monastery, which the Dalai Lama visited today to offer religious prayers and inaugurate a museum and a libray in the monastery. Apart from being the first town the Dalai Lama crossed over into India when he escaped from Tibet in 1959 on Matrch 31st, Tawang also happens to be a very sacred place for Tibetan Buddhists as the Fifth Dalai Lama was born here. The Dalai Lama will be attending events in Tawang till the 12th of November and then visit other towns of Bomdilla and state capital of Arunachal Pradesh - Itanagar before returning to Delhi on 16th November. The Dalai Lama repeatedly told journalsit that 'my visit entirely non political' China sees the event to be highly politicised.

Nobel Peace Prize laureates Jody Williams from the United States, Mairead Corrigan Maguire from Northern Ireland and Shirin Ebadi from Iran attend a public ceremony in honour of the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet, in the northern Indian hill town of Dharamsala. Dharamsala, India. 27/10/2009. Jodi Williams and Shirinn Ebadi in their speech expressed disappointment with President Obama's China policies and disregard for Human Rights violation in Tibet. Obama is the first U.S. president who declined to meet the the spiritual leader and Nobel Laureate on his recent trip to the U.S. In a press release by issued by eight former Nobel Laureates - Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, Adolfo Perez Equivel, Betty Williams, Wangari Maathai said 'We urge the Chinese government to take immediate and constructive steps to resolve the status of Tibet and end the oppressive policies that continue to marginalize and impoverish Tibetans in their own land. By implementing laws that are enshrined in the Chinese constitution for a legitimate and meaningful autonomy for all Tibetans, the Chinese government will make great strides in securing peace and unity in their country.' The event ‘Peace Jam Youth Conference’ was initiated by the Dalai Lama, an international education program to encourage Nobel Laureates and the youth to engage in a dialogue on peace.

The Dalai Lama cracks a joke in response to a question about the Chinese government. Making gestures like a demon with horns, the Tibetan spiritual leader said 'the totalitarian [Chinese] government think of me as a demon'. Dharamsala, India. 21/10/2009. The Dalai Lama delivered spiritual Buddhist teachings on 'The four Noble Truths' to thousands of Buddhists from Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, China, Vietnam and Indonesia who converged at the main Tsuglagkhang temple in the northern Indian Hill town of Dharamsala to listen to the three day talk by their spiritual leader. The Dalai Lama narrated an incident where someone had asked him 'why the Chinese government is sort of afraid of me?'. The spiritual leader jokingly responded, 'because of my horns'.
