Envoys for the Dalai Lama said on Tuesday they had proposed to China a "common effort" to study the situation inside Tibet, saying such a move could help reconcile differences. Having returned from talks in China last week, envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari said they were briefed about a new Chinese policy approach that for the first time includes all Tibetan regions. Dharamsala, India. 02/02/2010.

The special envoys returned to Dharmsala - the exile home of Dalai Lama after two days of talks with their counterparts in Beijing. China warned President Barack Obama on Tuesday not to meet the Dalai Lama, saying any such meeting would harm bilateral relations.

Thousands of Tibetan exiles in Dharamsala gathered on the anniversary of 51st Uprising Day to hear speeches by the Dalai Lama and other senior leaders of the Tibetan government-in-exile.10/03/2010. Thousands of Tibetan exiles, most of them dressed in traditional silk and wool robes, gathered in the compound of a Buddhist temple to hear the Dalai Lama and other senior leaders of the Tibetan government-in-exile on the eve of 51 years of exile also called the 51st Uprising Day which marks on every March 10. The crowds included hundreds of Tibetan nuns and monks in orange and maroon robes. In a speech to mark the 51st anniversary of the failed uprising against Chinese rule that prompted him to flee Tibet, the Dalai Lama said he had done everything he could to explain that his goal was Tibetan autonomy within China -- and not full independence as Beijing suspects. The Dalai Lama blasted Chinese authorities Wednesday, accusing them of trying to 'annihilate Buddhism' in Tibet as he commemorated a failed uprising against China's rule over the region. The Tibetan spiritual leader's angry comments appeared to signal his frustration with fruitless efforts to negotiate a compromise with China. However, he said he would not abandon talks. The Tibetan leader said that 'whether the Chinese government acknowledges it or not, there is a serious problem in Tibet,' but attempts to talk to the Chinese leadership about granting limited autonomy to the Tibetan people had gone nowhere. Hundreds of Tibetans from different walks of life staged a massive protest rally which started from the main temple and culminated at local Bazaar. The Dalai Lama brushed off Chinese protests and traveled Sunday to this remote Himalayan town near the Tibetan border to lead five days of prayer and teaching sessions for Buddhist pilgrims. Thousands of poor villagers braved freezing temperatures and icy winds for a rare chance to glimpse the Tibetan spiritual leader. Monks clanged cymbals and sounded traditional Tibetan horns to greet the Dalai Lama as he arrived at the Tawang monastery from a nearby helipad. The Dalai Lama smiled and chatted with the gathered crowds. One monk shaded him with a giant yellow silk umbrella, while scores of others bowed before him as he walked into a hall to lead a prayer session. The trip to Tawang, which has strong ties to Tibet and lies at the heart of a border dispute between India and China, angered Beijing and further heightened already raised tensions between the two nations. Tawang is close to the border with Tibet and is home to the Monpa tribe, who have strong ties to Lhasa. The sixth Dalai Lama came from the region in the 17th century and China fears the current Dalai Lama will say his successor could also come from the region, removing China's role in choosing Tibet's next spiritual leader. At the same time, India's decision to let the Dalai Lama visit Tawang — just weeks after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Arunachal Pradesh — is another declaration of its sovereignty over the disputed border area. For his part, the Dalai Lama, who fled to India from Chinese-ruled Tibet 50 years ago, no longer appears concerned about angering China since negotiations over his Himalayan homeland have gone nowhere, Raghavan said. 'The Dalai Lama really has nothing to lose,' he said. 'The key thing is for him to be able to preserve Tibetan religion and culture.'

Three leading Nobel Peace Laureates took part in a public ceremony to honour the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet for the role they played for peace and non-violence in the world. Dharamsala, India. 27/10/2009. As part of the ceremony, the three Nobel Peace Laureates - Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi and Mairead Corrigan Maguire - presented a joint statement signed by eight Nobel Peace Laureates to the Dalai Lama assuring him of their support for his “non-violent efforts” to resolve the issue of Tibet. The public honouring ceremony is part of a two-day 2009 PeaceJam Youth Conference being held at the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School in apprenticeship with the three visiting Nobel Peace Laureates. Senior leaders of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, including the Prime Minister Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, and TCV students took part in the event. The PeaceJam Conference is an international educational program built around Nobel Peace Laureates who work with youth to pass on the spirit, skills and wisdom they embody.
