Today I acted as Ms Merkel in a great stunt. Oxfam is criticising the world leaders for not taking Afghan poverty seriously. the world leaders throwing money all over but missing the poverty bucket. The aid agency says the needs of Afghans must be put at the heart of the international community's strategy and urges foreign ministers attending today's London Conference to prioritise the fight against poverty and promote good governance.
Oxfam says that the international community is failing to tackle the poverty in Afghanistan that fuels the conflict. $1.7bn has been spent on aid and a further $1bn is planned for the coming year but it is ineffective because it’s meeting the basic needs of the people. Afghanistan is still the second poorest country in the world. The aid agency urges foreign ministers attending today's London Conference to prioritise the fight against poverty and promote good governance.
