Water levels at the Kiambere Dam in Eastern Kenya have gone down so much (following climatic change) that many of those in this tiny fishing community cannot survive on the dwindling fish catch. Many have moved on but Nancy Matendechere from Busia has stayed put. Here she arranges fish on the traditional drier before firing it up to dry the tiny tilapia fish. Kenyan herders of Samburu and Maasai tribesmen have been hit by climate change. Its the third year now without rains in the Laikipia plains in the Rift Valley. The herders now have to move towards Mount Kenya and anywhere near forests to save their herds from being being wiped out by lack of water and pasture. They are stilldying anyway but they are doing whatever is in their power to save the herds. The government has offered to buy each starving at Ksh 8,000 (about 100 US dollar) but some of the cows are so week they can't even get to the buying centre. Families who depend on the cattle for their food have been left desolate and are depending on well-wishers for relief. Climate Change Brings Havoc On Kenyan Herders

In 2007 Kenyans voted in a general elections, widely expected to beat incumbent all powerfull president Mwai Kibaki was opposition leader Raila Odinga. He rejected the elections results which indicated his party: Orange Democratic Movement had won majority seats in parliament but that he had lost the presidency. Country-wide violent protests erupted killing more than 1000 as security forces battled local tribesmen protesting the outcome of the elections. Thousands of Kenyans were expelled from their homes but the Kikuyu's suffered most after they were thought have voted for a Kikuyu candidate Kibaki. Many were ejected from Rift Valley and their homes torched. These pictures show about 10,000 mainly Kikuyu tribesmen injected from Rift Valley and who now have settled in Ol Kalou ( predominantly Kikuyu area) about 300 kilometres from Nairobi, the capital city. But like a story with a bad ending here the government forgot about them. Living conditions in this camp aptly named Shalom City (city of peace ) is deplorable. Food, water, shelter and other amenities are in short supply yet both Kibaki and Raila now share power in what is called the Grand Coalition government
