Demonstrators against cruelty to Carp. Warsaw, Poland. 19/12/2009.
Do fish grow on trees? In the last weekend before Christmas activists from Viva! Warsaw are encouraged to reflect on this question. Colorful fishes hanging in one of the trees at the Rotunda square in the center of Warsaw. The question is if passers understand the question.
Activists dressed up in a fish costume giving information flyers to people on the street. There are also 3 hugh banners and there is a live band playing to get the attention from the passers.
Serving meals with Carp fish is a tradition during Christmas in Poland. In 2009, a change in legislation for the protection of animals. According to the amendment of Article 2 from this year to the Law on the Protection of Animals and other related laws and regulations for slaughter were included in the carp (Journal of Laws of 2009 No. 79 pos. 668) . Unfortunately, with a few visits from the Viva activists to Warsaw supermarkets and markets they recorded some shocking material. Carp fishes are still getting sold and killed, after this new law, in a horrible way.
