These images were taken during a two-day visit to the province of Isabela to inspect the situation of drought in the farmlands and reported fishkill in the fishcages of operators in the Magat dam. Much of the drought has affected rice and corn production which are the most sought-after produce of Isabela province. Isabela, Philippines. 24/02/2010. Governor Grace Padaca also responded to the appeal of her constituents who wanted to have fuel to use on their water pumps so that it could reach more farm areas. Drought came to the province of Isabela in the Cagayan Valley in Northern Luzon in December 2009. The drought has worsened in its third month this February. The Philippine weather bureau, PAGASA, said it was brought on by the phenomenon of El Nino, a weather pattern arising from the warming of the sea surface over the equatorial areas of the Pacific Ocean. Corn has suffered heavily after a crop production loss of PhP1.8 billion was recently reported on February 24 by the provincial office of agriculture. Land that used to grow rice has turned dry and parched. The Magat Dam which supplies water to rice and corn fields that have survived the drought so far, is now in critical condition at 143 meters. Its normal water level is 165 meters. Farmers are worried about the next few months. Even the mighty Cagayan River is not able to reach all the lands it used to fertilize because water pumps need fuel and fuel is expensive. Government help has been sought but it could be too late. The drought is expected to last until June 2010.

On October 8, 2009, while residents slept at 10:30pm a huge landslide swept away about 30 houses and killed more than a hundred people. Typhoon Pepeng is said to have triggered the landslide that cause the mountain to give way. La trinidad, Philippines, 15/10/2009. On October 8, 2009 at 10:30 at night, while residents slept in Little Kibungan in Puguis, La Trinidad, in Benguet province, 250 kilometers north of Manila, a huge landslide swept away 30 houses and killed more than a hundred people. On the day I was there, there were four more bodies that hadnt been found. The Kindipan family was waiting for their last kin to be found so they could bury the dead--Mother Bibiana and her children Mark Denver, Michelle, and Antonette. The father was away at work at that time.

Marikina City in Manila was devastated by the flooding due to typhoon Ondoy on the 27th of September. It left more than 240 people dead. Reconstruction is slow for the many who have no resources to immediately rebuild. Manila, Philippines. 30/09/2009 I took these images from two affected areas in Marikina, Manila, Philippines after storm ONDOY blew into town on September 27,2009. One is at Provident Village, a middle-class neighborhood of nice cars and big villas. The other place is in an urban poor section of Marikina called Bgy. Tumana. Ondoy didnt choose which section to ravage. It ravaged no matter what. But Filipinos are resilient. Many will survive this. But there were the weaker who were not as lucky though. The recovery is now ongoing but many areas are still crying out for the basics of food and water. Residents are also now asking for medicine to treat their wounds sustained from the storm's angry lashing.

These images were at the Cory Aquino wake at La Sallee Greenhills, the Manila Cathedral, and then the main avenues of EDSA and then Ayala Avenue, the country's premier business district, then through the Roxas Boulevard where throngs of ordinary Filipinos got a glimpse of their former president. The former president was brought to her final resting place at the Manila Memorial Park on August 5. She was buried beside her slain husband Ninoy Aquino, believed to have been murdered by the Marcoses in 1983.

The Obando fertility dance is celebrated every May 17-19 each year in the town of Obando,province of Bulacan, 30 minutes away from Manila,Philippines. It is a religious feast where childless couples are encouraged to dance in the streets and attend mass where the patron saints St. Clare, St. Paschal, and Our lady of Salambao are said to help the couples concieve. Single men and women also attend this feast at Obando so they can petition the saints for a life husband/wife.Many also dance to pray for good fortune.
